Developed by Wowza Media Systems, Wowza Streaming Engine is a streaming media server software developed by Wowza Media Systems. This was formerly know as Wowza Media Server prior to version 4. It reduces the complexities of video and audio delivery enabling companies to build and manage high-quality live and on-demand streaming solutions.

The server is used for streaming live and on-demand video, audio, and Rich Internet Applications over IP networks which can be used in desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile devices, set-top boxes, internet TVs, game consoles, and network devices. Wowza Streaming Engine can stream multiple types of playback clients and devices simultaneously including Adobe Flash player, Microsoft Silverlight player, QuickTime Player and iOS devices, 3GPP mobile phones, IPTV set-top boxes and game consoles such as Wii, Xbox, and PS3. It is compatible with standard streaming protocols and these include RTMP. The server can ingest video and audio via RTP, RTSP, RTMP, MPEG-TS and ICY streams. It is also compatible with incoming streams via the RTSP and WOWZ protocols from mobile Android and iOS devices running the Wowza GoCoder mobile encoding application.
